Girl unharmed after car she was riding in struck by gunfire, crashed into building
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A child is unharmed, and two adults are recovering, after the car in which they were riding in was hit by gunfire Sunday afternoon.
Police said the shooting happened just after 1 p.m. Sunday on Kedzie near Lake in West Garfield Park. A man and woman in the car were hit by gunfire. A child in the car was not hit.
The car continued on Kedzie for another mile before crashing into a Popeye's restaurant on Chicago Avenue.
Assistant Manager Rose Williams told CBS 2 that she's thinking about the little girl who was in that car.
"The violence is a lot," she said. "Since I grew up, I've never seen it this bad. Honestly. It's really, really bad. It's outrageous now."
The girl is physically okay. The man was shot in the leg. The woman was hit in the arm. Both victims were taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition and are expected to survive.
According to CBS 2, it was not known if the shooter in the incident was driving or walking. There was no one in custody Sunday afternoon. Area Four detectives were investigating.
