CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After some major delays, the Save-A-Lot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood is scheduled to reopen this spring.
The Save-A-Lot store at 420 South Pulaski Road was closed for renovations by the grocery company Yellow Banana, who has faced criticism for the year- long delay-- given the grocery store in the only one in the area.
CEO Joe Canfield said he understands the critics and said supply chain issues for refrigeration units, among other reasons, pushed things back.
"Just getting the store open isn't enough. I think everyone expects us to follow through and prove that we're going to be there for a while."
Canfield said he wants to deliver a quality, healthy, clean, secure grocery store to the community.
If all goes according to plan, the community will see a new grocery store in the area on March 27.
