(WBBM NEWSRADIO) --The federal government and several states are teaming up to study how climate change could potentially affect areas along the Great Lakes.

The Great Lakes Coastal Resiliency Study will look at a wide range of possible climate scenarios, including how future storms, flooding, extremely low or high-water levels and erosion could affect shoreline areas.

The study will also consider ways federal and local governments, as well as other organizations, can partner on efforts to limit the negative effects of climate-related issues.

The study is being funded by the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, as well as Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and other Great Lakes states.

Online public meetings will be held in the near future.
