Wrong-way driver killed in fiery crash on I-88

MAPLE PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A person has died after a wrong-way crash in Kane County Monday morning.

A driver was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-88 (Reagan Tollway) around 5:15 a.m. when they crashed head-on into another car near Watson Road in Maple Park.

Illinois State Police said both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames, and the wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car that was struck was taken to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries.

All eastbound lanes were shut down for several hours, but have since reopened.
