CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There’s no incumbent running for Illinois Secretary of State and so November’s general election will pit Democrat Alexi Giannoulias against Republican Dan Brady.

Long-time Illinois State Representative Dan Brady said he’s excited to have won the Republican primary for Secretary of State and points out he received more actual votes Tuesday than Democrat Alexi Giannoulias although there were 87,000 more Democratic votes cast in that race.

"I think if you look to my ability in the Republican primary, as I indicated, I wasn’t part of a slate," he said.

"I was mismatched for resources financially, but I just simply outworked my opponent."

Brady said he’s shown in the state legislature that he can work with both sides of the aisle. He said he wants to improve services in the Secretary of State’s Office, especially in lowering wait-times at driver’s license facilities.
