CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Job cuts are coming to Evanston-Skokie School District 65.
It came up during a recent special board meeting. The district is looking to cut $5 million – $6 million from the 2024-2025 budget, District 65 Supt. Angela Turner said.
Details are expected to be released next month, but as Evanston Now reports, one name came up.
Activists complained that Karen Bireta, the district's sustainability director, is losing her job.
One called it "an egregious step backward."
Here's the Superintendent.
"I'm really not sure where the misunderstanding came in place where this district and this board does not value sustainability," she said.
Turner said the district will have a science and sustainability education coordinator. Details about the budget cuts are expected to be made public on April 15.
