(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Judy Belushi Pisano, widow of John Belushi, has died following a long battle with cancer.

A post on the official Blues Brothers Instagram account says, “our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to our sweet Judy.”

“Her unwavering dedication and creative genius alongside Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi gave birth to The Blues Brothers, a timeless testament to the power of music and laughter.”

Judy lived in Martha’s Vineyard. She was 73.

Last year she was at an event with the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society taking a question from an audience about the formation of the Blues Brothers band.

“John got up and sang in a club one night, and Lorne Michaels was there and he said, ‘You should warm up the audience.’  And he got Danny to do it with him. And I went out with a friend and we got them black suits.”

Judy, like her future husband, John Belushi, grew up in Wheaton.

She was an actress, writer, producer and filmmaker.
