(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lightfoot on Monday said she’s pleased the Archdiocese of Chicago has restored Father Michael Pfleger to his duties as senior Pastor of St. Sabina Church.
Lightfoot praised “Father Mike” and said he’s been a center of gravity in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood and a conscience for the city on matters of gun violence.
Still, the mayor said the Archdiocese was right to investigate claims by two now-adult men who claimed Pfleger abused them decades ago.
“The Archdiocese, as we should have, took those allegations very seriously and went through a very thorough process,” Lightfoot said at an unrelated appearance.
Cardinal Blase Cupich said the Archdiocese’s independent review board concluded there is "insufficient reason to suspect Father Pfleger is guilty of these allegations.”
