(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A local electrical workers union looks to represent employees of several Intelligentsia Coffee houses.

Five Intelligentsia storefronts in Chicago have been included in a petition filed by the local 1220 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers seeking a union election covering the coffee house employees.

“We know these companies are extremely profitable. We know there is money to be given to the workers," John Rizzo, business manager of Local 1220 told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Also included in the petition are employees of the Roasting Works Warehouse. The petition will need to be accepted by the National Labor Relations Board and then the coffeehouse workers would be allowed a chance at voting to unionize.

Just this past week, two stores in Edgewater became the first of Chicago's Starbucks chains to unionize.
