Man armed with gun shot by Joliet cop: police

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The shooting and wounding of a person by a Joliet police officer Wednesday morning is under investigation.

Joliet police say they received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a man holding a handgun outside a residence in the 1100 block of North Center Street.

Investigators say the male was pointing the gun at the residence before entering the building by breaking a window to a backdoor.

Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English said an officer encountered the man, who refused to drop his weapon. The officer fired, wounding the man.

English said the suspect was taken in stable condition to a hospital.

The Major Crimes Task Force for Will and Grundy counties is investigating the shooting.
