36-year-old Edmund J. Horvath of Lynwood is charged with illegal possession of a firearm by an individual previously convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says on Tuesday at about 4 a.m., Horvath fired shots outside the garage of the Kluczynski Federal Building at 230 South Dearborn Street.
The complaint states that a security officer indoors asked Horvath to leave, then the officer heard shots and saw flashes.
Chicago Police officers were dispatched to the federal building and arrested Horvath.
The discharged ammunition caused interior and exterior damage to the Kluczynski Building.
