Man drowns at Winnetka beach during July 4 celebrations

WIINETAKA, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --A man drowned during 4th of July celebrations Tuesday at a Winnetka beach.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has identified the man as 43-year-old Luke Laidley of Winnetka.

Just after 1 p.m. on the July 4th holiday, the Winnetka Fire Department was called to Elder Beach where a man that had jumped from a boat into the water had struggled to swim and then drown.

He had been pulled back into the boat and CPR was started immediately, Winnetka Fire medics took over life saving attempts once the boat had returned to shore.

He was then taken to Northshore Evanston Hospital where his death was officially pronounced.
