CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man who killed himself Wednesday afternoon during a standoff with police at a North Side motel was wanted for murder in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Police said the 52-year-old man barricaded himself inside a room at the Rodeway Inn on Lincoln Avenue near Peterson just after 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
U.S. Marshals and Chicago police surrounded the motel. For hours, neighbors were told to stay inside, as police tried to get the man to surrender.
After three hours, police entered his room and found the man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Chicago police believe the man was wanted in Kenosha, Wisconsin for the murder of Janine Sznitko. Her body was discovered in her home after a well-being check on Tuesday. It is not clear how she died, CBS 2 reported.
Neighbors told CBS 58 Milwaukee that they are heartbroken.
“I’m devastated, heartbroken,” said a woman who knew Sznitko. “I’m going to miss her so much.”
The man was identified by Kenosha police as 52-year-old Roberto Andino.
Kenosha police confirmed in a tweet late Wednesday that they were no longer looking for Andino and he was the subject of a death investigation in Chicago.
