MCHENRY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A part-time fighter and paramedic in McHenry is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a non-profit firefighters’ association.
John Kuhl, 54, previously served as treasurer for the McKendry Firefighters Association between April of 2019 and September of this year and he used the association's debit card to make personal purchases, according to investigators.
He allegedly withdrew cash totaling over $40,000 in funds and faces felony charges of fraud and theft.
The part- time firefighter and paramedic was placed on unpaid administrative leave earlier in November pending a full investigation. The Daily Herald reported some of the funds are meant for local charities and scholarships.
Kuhl is currently free on bond and due back in court in December.
