SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — There's a new candidate on the Republican side for Illinois secretary of state.
It's John Milhiser, who was U.S. attorney for central Illinois under President Donald Trump, and before that the Sangamon County state's attorney.
The political website Capitol Fax suggested Milhiser is part of a Republican team assembled and funded by billionaire investor Ken Griffin. There is already one Republican announced for the job, state Rep. Dan Brady from Bloomington.
Just after Milhiser's announcement, Brady released a list of Illinois Republican lawmakers — both in Springfield and Washington — endorsing Brady.
Democrat incumbent Jesse White is not seeking re-election.
