(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The head chef of a popular southwest side restaurant remains in a coma more than a week after being carjacked, beaten, and hospitalized as a John Doe.
Family said 61-year old Jin Lew was found at 25th Place near Princeton in Chinatown last week. According to CBS-2, Lew’s car was gone, so were any personal belongings and identification. That’s why he was hospitalized as a John Doe until his family was able to find him.
According to a family spokesman Lew had been so badly beaten, he needed multiple brain surgeries. Lew has been the head chef for decades at Chi Tung restaurant in Evergreen Park.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to offset mounting medical bills and has already raised about $50,000.
A family spokesman says those responsible need to be caught and punished.
