NASCAR Chicago 2024: When and where street closures will take place

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The 2024 NASCAR Chicago Street Race weekend is here. For the race, there are numerous street closures, and downtown access will be severely limited.

Below, you'll find an interactive map and bulleted lists, showing a complete set of closures for race weekend.

NASCAR Chicago Street Race closures

For those who want additional information from the city, local officials have suggested downloading the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications app.

Race Weekend Closures:

-July 6 and 7: DuSable Lake Shore Drive, in both directions, will close from Randolph to McFetridge Road.

-July 6 and 7: Northbound Michigan Avenue will close from Roosevelt Road to Jackson Drive.

-July 6 and 7: Southbound Michigan will close from Jackson Drive to 8th Street.

-July 6 and 7: Monroe Street will close from Columbus Drive to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

-July 6 and 7: Columbus Drive will close from Roosevelt Road to Monroe Street.

-July 6 and 7: Roosevelt Road will close from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to Michigan Avenue

-July 6 and 7: Jackson Drive will close from Michigan Avenue to DuSable Lake Drive.

-July 6 and 7: Balbo Drive will close from Michigan Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

-July 6 and 7: Ida B. Wells Drive will close from Michigan Avenue to Columbus Drive.

-July 6 and 7: Congress Circle will close from Harrison Street to Van Buren Street.

-July 6 and 7: Northbound Indiana Avenue will close Roosevelt Road to 13th Street.

-July 6 and 7: Lower Wacker Drive’s entrance and exit at both Post Place and Garvey Court will be close

Reopening Schedule:

-The northbound section of DuSable Lake Shore Drive is slated to reopen Monday, July 8, at 6 a.m. Select streets will gradually reopen after the event concludes.

-The City will prioritize DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive in the reopening process.

-Certain street closures could remain in place as late as July 18, as crews work on removing the track, fence and viewing stands.

The NASCAR Chicago Street Race will take place Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7. Practice sessions, a preliminary race and several musical performances are slated for July 6. The main race, which is officially known as the Grant Park 165, will begin at 3:30 p.m. on July 7.
