(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Investigators say the death of a freshman at Northern Illinois University was due to a longstanding heart condition.

A cleaning crew on Monday found the body of 21-year-old Tyler Madison in a lab in the NIU arts building, DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller said.

“In speaking with his physicians and his medical team, it was determined to be a medical death and no autopsy is requested by my office or the family,” Miller said.

Madison, an art and design major, was from Chicago’s Washington Heights neighborhood.

A spokesperson for NIU says counselors are available for students and staff who need help coping with Madison's death.
