Off-duty Kane County Sheriff's deputy involved in fatal Elgin shooting: State's attorney

ELGIN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Kane County authorities continue to investigate Monday’s late afternoon shooting that involved an off-duty sheriff’s deputy and left a person dead.

According to the Kane County State’s Attorney Office, the incident in Elgin occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m., near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and National Street. The state’s attorney revealed an off-duty sheriff’s deputy participated and it ended in a fatality.

The officer has yet to be identified. Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain told WBBM that "he's incredibly proud of the deputy's actions, even while off-duty."

The identity of the deceased has not yet been identified.

No other information was provided.

The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is conducting the investigation.
