PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- At least one person was killed in a crash in Northwest suburban Prospect Heights early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. near the intersection of North River Road and South Milwaukee Avenue, the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District told WBBM.
A vehicle was traveling eastbound on River Road towards Milwaukee Avenue when it struck a guardrail and a concrete wall. The vehicle then caught on fire and went over the wall before landing in the Des Plaines River.
A person was found dead in the vehicle, according to officials. Police are currently investigating the crash.
Milwaukee Avenue between 540 N. Milwaukee Avenue and River Road and River Road between E. Old Willow Road and Milwaukee avenue will be closed during the investigation.
