CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An overturned dump truck caused havoc on the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway.
A portion of the outbound Dan Ryan was shut down for nearly three hours Wednesday.
The closure occurred in the outbound lanes near 91st street, following a three-vehicle crash involving a semi-trailer truck. The accident happened at around 10:45 a.m., Illinois State Police (ISP) said.
The incident caused the semi to overturn, ISP said, resulting in the truck’s load of gravel to spill across all lanes. The truck also leaked diesel fuel.
No one was injured.
Police diverted all traffic at 87th Street.
The cleanup took nearly three hours and resulted in a several miles long backup.
Lanes began to reopen shortly after 1:30 p.m.
