Pair charged with attacking Chicago Police during funeral brawl

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Charges are being filed against two Chicago men allegedly involved in a fight with police at a West side funeral on Saturday.

Twenty-five-year-old Demarco Hunter and 37-year-old Michael Fitzgerald are now charged with aggravated battery after Chicago Police said they attacked officers during a brawl outside a West Garfield Park church.

A funeral service was being held at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist when a fight broke out among attendees.

Police were called to the scene, and that’s when things spiraled out of control. At least three officers suffered head injuries while trying to break up the brawl and place individuals under arrest.

In addition to the felony battery charge, Fitzgerald is also facing four counts of resisting and obstructing a peace officer.
