Playlist of the Week: Phil Collins Radio

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago has long been a bastion of Genesis lovers, dating back to their opening set for Heartsfield at the Aragon, in April 1973. Their first Chicago headlining show was at Northwestern in December of that year followed by two shows at the Auditorium in November 1974. That’s quite a leap in stature and venue over just 18 months.

Tour by tour, album by album, song by song, Chicago has been a city where they can do no wrong. Next week, they’ll open what is possibly their final tour of the States with two dates at the United Center. What they’re calling The Last Domino? North American Tour is more than just marketing; Phil Collins, long a tireless and dynamic performer (and ferocious drummer) is suffering ill health. So much so that he's relinquished the drum throne to his son, Nic, for this tour. His bandmates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks along with longtime touring guitarist (and Wisconsinite) Daryl Steurmer round out the band this time.

The Last Domino? North American Tour 2021 marks the first time Genesis has performed stateside since 2007’s Turn It On Again: The Tour which went on to be one of the biggest grossing tours of that year playing sold out arenas and stadiums around the world. One of the most successful and legendary rock bands of all-time, Genesis has sold more than 100 million albums with numerous top 20 hits including “Invisible Touch,” “In Too Deep,” and “Turn It On Again,” while also being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

Will this time be the last time? No way of knowing, but I’d bet on it. Hope I’m wrong. Genesis at the United Center, next Monday and Tuesday. For many reasons, do not miss. Prepare for the show by listening to our Audacy exclusive station, Phil Collins Radio.
