Police issue community alert about string of armed robberies happening across Chicago
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago police are warning about a string of armed robberies on the northwest side over the weekend.
Police said one or two men held up people Saturday in Humboldt Park, Bucktown and Logan Square.
A community alert said the robbers got out of a dark colored BMW SUV, demanded belongings while armed with a handgun.
Three different robberies happened between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. with the gunman taking a car in one incident, police said.
Another alert warns of robberies in South Loop last week in which authorities said the thief knocked victims over while grabbing their phone and taking off in a waiting car.
Three incidents happened around 14th Street and Michigan Avenue in the middle of the day.
In Englewood, police said someone broke into a business near 59th Street and Ashland Avenue on Dec. 16. And down the block, the same church was hit twice by burglars – once last month and almost two weeks ago.
Police said thieves broke glass doors to take computers, speakers and a monitor.
