CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A South Side priest is recovering after being shot with a high-velocity paintball this week in broad daylight.
Reverend Father Primo Racimo, 72, was shot twice in the abdomen with paintballs Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of St. Margaret Episcopal Church in the South Shore neighborhood.
To give you an idea of the force involved, paintballs travel at 300 feet per second.
The priest said he had been taking a picture of a vehicle’s license plate, because a man wouldn’t move it from a permit-only parking lot. That’s when he was shot twice with pink paintballs and has the bruises to prove it.
A Chicago police officer told Fr. Racimo that he was lucky, "because he said if it was closer, it might have penetrated your stomach," the priest told CBS 2.
Fr. Racimo said the shooter got away, but he’s glad it wasn’t a real gun.
