(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- R Kelly's music royalties could help pay what he owes his victims-- if federal prosecutors get their way.
Prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York want to garnish R. Kelly's royalties and other earnings he receives from Sony Music Entertainment in order to pay what he owes his victims and the courts.
That's according to a court filing made on Thursday which references the more than $520,000 Kelly was ordered to pay following his 2021 conviction on several charges including sex-trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.
Federal prosecutors said only a fraction of that judgment--roughly $28,000 has been credited towards the balance due.
Kelly is currently serving his 30-year sentence in a federal prison in North Carolina.
