CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Rivers Casino in Des Plaines was evacuated Sunday after a fire in a restaurant on the property.
The Des Plaines Fire Department responded around 10 p.m. Sunday to a reported fire at Rivers Casino.
Fire officials extinguished a fire in the Hugo’s Frog Bar restaurant kitchen cooking ventilation system and the rooftop exhaust fans, the Des Plaines Fire Department said.
Rivers Casino patrons and employees were evacuated from the casino and there were no injuries reported.
One of the evacuated patrons requested medical assistance and was treated and transported to Lutheran General Hospital with a non-life-threatening issue, the fire department said.
“We are grateful that all guests and team members safely evacuated the casino and no one was hurt,” the casino said in a statement. “We thank the Des Plaines Fire Department for their quick work and for working with Rivers and the Illinois Gaming Board on our reopen plan.”
Due to the weather conditions and interior and exterior fires, the fire was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm, which brought in additional resources, the fire department said.
Damage was isolated to the kitchen hood and duct and a portion of the roof. There is also slight water damage.
Hugo’s Frog Bar restaurant remains closed. The casino reopened Monday morning.
The Des Plaines Fire Department is investigating the incident.
