Royal George Theater looks to be closing for good; shows asked to clear out by April 11

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A well-known Chicago theater closing its doors for good.

Producers of shows booked at the Royal George Theater on Halsted near North Avenue in Lincoln Park told the Tribune they have been instructed to make other plans for their productions.

Sources said the theater is expected to be sold for redevelopment in the coming weeks.

Producers of two shows at the Royal George said they have to be out of the space by April 11.

Additionally, the long running show “Late Night Catechism" is now looking for another venue.

The Royal George Theater was built in 1984 and features four theaters and a restaurant space. A number of iconic performers and shows have graced its stages.
