ELMHURST (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Elmhurst police are looking for those responsible for vandalizing a home over the weekend with racist symbolism.

At 9:00 a.m. Sunday, police said they discovered three red swastikas spray painted onto two garage doors and a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in the 400 block of N. Oak Street. Authorities are investigating the incident  as a hate crime and believe it occurred between 9:45 p.m. Saturday and 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

The homeowners did not see anything suspicious leading up to the vandalism, according to police, but investigators are still trying to determine if the victims were targeted.

Elmhurst police are asking nearby residents to provide any home security video that they may have during the time frame and requesting anyone with a tip to call the department at 630-530-3050.
