Proviso District 209 switches to e-learning after students from 3 high schools walkout in support of teachers threatening to strike

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The three high schools in Proviso District 209 have switched to remote learning for Thursday but not because of the predicted bad weather.

District 209 Supt. James Henderson said the e-learning day has been declared so that an investigation could be conducted into a student walkout that happened Wednesday as well as a series of small fires set in bathrooms.

The superintendent said the walkouts happened at Proviso East and West high schools but the Forest Park Review also said a walkout happened at the Proviso Math & Science Academy and that all the walkouts were in support of teachers who plan to go on strike Friday.

The superintendent said disciplinary action will be taken against those who participated in the student walkout and fire setting.
