CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police said a suspect is in custody in the alleged murder and dismemberment of a woman who rented rooms in her home on the Far North Side.
It was a gruesome find in the 5900 of North Washtenaw. Body parts reportedly found in the freezer of a home, and the victim, police believe, is the landlord.
Police said a tenant had called to report the woman missing and that’s where other parts of the mystery began being filled in.
CBS-2 talked to neighbor Phoebe Salzmann. She said that she saw the female suspect tote a large bag out to a tow truck and found it strange since garbage pick-up is in the alley, and the woman was wearing a puffy coat when it was 70-degrees outside.
“It just sends chills down my spine,” Salzmann said.
Police said the tow truck driver had called police to report the woman had pulled a knife on him after he took her to Foster Beach where she allegedly dumped that large bag into a garbage container.
Detectives found bloody towels at the scene and turned over the contents of the container to the Medical Examiner’s Office which is determining who the victim is and the cause of death.
