
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police are working to extradite an Illinois driver to Indiana after he allegedly led officers on a chase to Chicago’s South Side Tuesday night, with a child in his car.
The Lake County Sheriff in Indiana said police in Highland tried to pull over a black BMW at around 5 p.m. Tuesday. They did not give the reason but said it was part of a joint enforcement operation.
Police said the driver led sheriff’s vehicles and a helicopter on a chase that ended in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago.
Police said officers stopped the car near 53rd and Morgan, but the driver ran away, leaving a 4-year-old child inside.
Police say they Tased the man and arrested him. His name has not been made public, but police said he’s 26-years-old from Illinois and expected to be charged with felony fleeing, child endangerment and marijuana possession.
Paramedics checked out the child who was placed with relatives.
