HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Highland Park police are investigating after a swastika was found Friday on a garbage can.

Blue painter’s tape was used to make the swastika and other anti-semitic content on the can that’s used for feed for swans in a pond in the Hybernia subdivision.

Mayor Nancy Rotering issued a statement saying she’s “appalled and disturbed.”

“This act of hatred, bigotry, and cowardice has no place in our community. I condemn it in the strongest terms possible." she said.

While police investigate, the city is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
