
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Union faculty at the University of Illinois Chicago staged a demonstration Wednesday ahead of a planned strike next Tuesday, should members not reach a new contract agreement with management.
John Casey is a senior lecturer in the English Department. He’s been full time at UIC since 2012. He’s earning $61,000 per year.
"When I talk to people and I tell them that I'm a faculty member at UIC, they assume that I make more than I do."
Compensation is a big issue, but there are others, including having a say in decisions that impact faculty and students, especially after COVID.
