(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Crestwood police have warned people about a string of gas station thefts that have been happening right under the nose of unsuspecting drivers.

Police posted a video from a surveillance camera on Facebook. It starts with the driver of a pickup pumping gas.

The footage shows another SUV approaching the pickup truck — as the victim remains oblivious. The suspects are shown opening the passenger door of their vehicle, grabbing several items from the pickup truck, getting back in their SUV and driving off.

It doesn’t appear the pickup driver had a clue what was happening.

The burglary was over in seconds.

Police said this has occurred several times in the past two weeks, with incidents usually involving thieves in alleged stolen vehicles.

They’ve taken purses, cell phones and other valuables, authorities said.

Crestweeod police instructed residents to lock your car — even if you’re standing next to it pumping gas.
