(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A local transportation advocate is reacting to social-media video showing a frightening scene along Chicago’s Lakefront Trail on Thursday.

The video posted to Twitter shows a man driving his car on the trail, in the middle of rush hour, weaving through people walking, jogging and biking.

“It’s kind of frustrating,” said Alex Perez, Advocacy Manager with Chicago’s Active Transportation Alliance. “The Lakefront Trail is one of the few places where somebody can commute, take a recreational jog or ride and feel safe without having to ride next to a car.”

He said unfortunately, this isn’t the first time cars have been seen on the trail.

“I think the thing to emphasize is to stay away from them if you see them, just for your own personal safety. As for next steps, call 9-1-1. And if you’re recording, try getting the license plate so that you can provide 9-1-1 with that information.”

Perez said the addition of safety barriers or pillars should be a priority moving forward to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
