(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Waukegan police said the fatal hit-and-run happened around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday near Crescent and Garrick Avenues.
Investigators said they believe a 40-year-old man, a 14-year-old boy, and a 14-year-old girl — described as family members and Waukegan residents — were walking their bicycles when they were struck by a 2011 white Dodge Challenger.
Police said the driver took off after the collision, but the vehicle was later found parked at the 2400 block of Dakota Road.
The suspected driver, 31-year-old Jhonatan Castaneda-Lopez, was taken into custody.
The man and boy suffered minor injuries, but Waukegan police said the teenage girl was pronounced dead due to her injuries.
Castaneda-Lopez was being held on $1 million bond on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal crash and driving without a valid driver’s license.
