CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A youth sports coach from Woodlawn was carjacked this weekend by two teens, the same age as some of the kids he’s been working with for decades.
Ernest Radcliffe said it happened in less than a minute. Two teens surprised him as he was packing his car for baseball practice Saturday night near 61st and Ellis.
He told CBS-2 this interaction with two teens near his home briefly shook him.
“There was nothing I could do,” Radcliffe said. “They carjacked me. They jumped out on me. I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t pray…It just happened so quick.”
He said he keeps thinking about lost opportunities.
“If any parent has a problem with their son or daughter, and they can’t do anything for them, they can reach out to us,” Radcliffe said. All the coaches around the city of Chicago that work with youth and put them in our programs so we can probably help them become successful young men or young ladies.”
He said police recovered his car but he’s still missing his equipment and paperwork.
