A day at the beach turned into a scene out of a horror movie for a young girl in Maryland.

Jordan Prushinski was swimming in knee-deep water at the beach in Ocean City when things took a gruesome turn.

"I didn't really realize what was going on until I was on the beach and I was bleeding everywhere," she told WBRE. "I thought a horseshoe crab had got lifted up and hit against my shins, and I don't like the sea creatures, so I rushed out immediately to find blood everywhere, with cuts all over my left leg."

Jordan’s mother, Melissa Prushinski, ran to get help and was assisted by a vacationing couple that happened to be a nurse and paramedic. They quickly began administering first aid to the 12-year-old’s wounds.

"She was definitely a rock star. She kind of held it together," registered nurse Brooke Rathell told the outlet. "It was more the sight of it, so my husband held the towel there with mom and I irrigated the wound and both the lifeguard and I and my husband and then the supervisor kind of wrapped everything up."

Jordan was taken to a local hospital and received 42 stitches for the 20 cuts on her legs.

While Jordan never saw what bit her, her family is confident it was a shark.

"We still don't know what kind of shark it was. The ER doctor confirmed it was a shark bite because no other animal makes this type of bite," Jordan's mother told WBAL-TV.

After consulting with the Department of Natural Resources, Ocean City Beach Patrol said they believe Jordan was bit by a sandbar shark, which is native to the area, reported CBS Baltimore.

Despite the harrowing incident, Jordan is keeping a positive outlook.

"I'm kind of like, wanting to stay out of the water for a little while,” the 7th grader told WBRE.  “But something like this is rare and it's even rarer to happen again.”

Spoken like a true legend.
