VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Nassau County man was charged with attacking a woman and resisting arrest in a confrontation that left an officer with an injured neck, police said Wednesday.
Daryl Russell, 32, got into an argument with the victim that quickly escalated at a Valley Stream home Tuesday evening.
Police said Russell picked up the victim’s phone and struck her in the face with it, causing swelling around her left eye and a laceration to her bottom lip.
The woman locked herself in the bathroom, but Russell forcibly removed her from the home. His relationship with the woman wasn't immediately clear.
When officers responded, Russell attempted to flee the home, police said. After a short foot pursuit, a struggle ensued.
According to police, he refused to comply with officers and became combative, swinging his arms to prevent his arrest. He was ultimatley subdued and arrested.
One officer was taken to a local hospital for a neck injury.
Russell was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
He was slated to be arraigned on Wednesday.
