NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Suffolk criminal court sentenced a 35-year-old Flanders woman to one to three years in prison on Wednesday for killing her daughter in a DWI crash in January.

Amy Wesolowski pleaded guilty to driving on high doses of prescription amphetamines when she crashed.

Amphetamines like Adderall or Ritalin can produce focus at lower doses, but when taken in high doses can cause loss of coordination, blurred vision and dizziness.

Wesolowski was driving with her 4-year-old daughter in the car on January 13. She attempted to make a left turn into oncoming traffic out of her driveway and totaled her car.

Passersby attempted to assist, but when they asked her if anyone else was in the car, she was too impaired to respond, according to prosecutors.

Her daughter was thrown out from the backseat to the trunk. She died three days after the crash at Stony Brook University Hospital.

The judge said the sentence was “simply a token,” and that the real punishment was living with the knowledge of what she had done.
