NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 15-year-old boy died Friday after he and another teen were shot outside a youth recreation center in the Bronx on Thursday night.

Gunfire erupted just before 9 p.m. outside the Police Athletic League on Longwood Avenue in the Longwood section, police said.

The 15-year-old, later identified as Josue Lopez-Ortega, was shot in the head and died after being rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in critical condition.

A 16-year-old was shot in the leg and transported to the same hospital in stable condition.

After the gunfire, at least one shooter blended in with a crowd of people leaving the center and fled, police said.

The shooter was masked, and police believe the two victims were targeted in what may have been retribution for a prior dispute. They don't believe it was gang-related.

No arrests had been made as of Friday evening. An investigation is ongoing.

The shooting came around the same time another 15-year-old was shot in Brooklyn, and the same day a 13-year-old boy was busted with a loaded revolver at a middle school in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx.

And on Wednesday, a 13-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly shooting a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl near a magnet school in Cambria Heights, Queens.
