NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An alleged drunk driver has been charged with manslaughter after a 23-year-old pregnant woman was thrown from a car that slammed into a utility pole on Staten Island early Saturday.
Adem Nikeziq, 30, was driving a 2021 white Dodge Challenger southbound on Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp when he lost control of the vehicle around 4:45 a.m. and ultimately struck a wood utility pole near Rose Avenue.
Police said the impact caused the car to split into three pieces.
The 23-year-old victim, a front-seat passenger, was ejected from the Dodge, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her identity has not been released at this time, but CBS 2 reported the victim was pregnant.
Nikeziq suffered minor injuries and was taken by EMS to Staten Island University Hospital North in stable condition.
He was also charged with criminally negligent homicide, assault, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated and driving while impaired by alcohol.
