
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is asking the public's assistance for information after a homeless man died months after he was beaten by a group of men at an East Harlem housing complex.
On Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at approximately 12:15 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress at the rear of the Taft NYCHA Development located at 70 East 115th St.
Upon arrival, officers observed a then 66-year-old homeless man conscious and alert with trauma about the face and body.
He was later identified as Edgardo Rodriguez
EMS responded and transported Rodriguez to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem in stable condition.
A preliminary investigation determined that an unknown group of men approached the victim and began physically assaulting him for an unknown reason before fleeing the location on foot in an unknown direction.
The victim was admitted into hospital care and was transferred to The Mount Sinai Hospital for further medical care.
On Thursday, August 18, 2022 Rodriguez was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Rodriguez was 67-years-old at the time of his death.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
Authorities released a photo of the victim on Friday.
