NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A homeless man has been arrested for attempting to rape a woman in a Queens bathroom before a good Samaritan stepped in to stop the attack at the last second, police said Thursday.

Damel Dennis, 43, was caught by Port Authority police at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on Wednesday following a tip that Dennis frequents the area.

Dennis is charged with attempted sex abuse, public lewdness and burglary.

The 34-year-old victim was in the lobby of a Long Island City building near Crescent Street and 41st Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Feb. 8 when she encountered Dennis exposing himself outside the bathroom door, police said.

The victim attempted to shut the door on the individual when the suspect pushed his way into the bathroom, grabbing her by the face before trying to pull her pants down. A good Samaritan thwarted the attack when he heard her scream, and Dennis ran off.

The victim wasn't physically injured, police said.

Police told the Daily News that Dennis has over thirty sealed prior arrests, one of which involved a criminal sex act charge in April 2019.
