Man, 91, raking leaves outside Bronx home fatally struck by vehicle

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 91-year-old man raking leaves outside of his Bronx home died a day after he was struck by a vehicle, authorities said.

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11, police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Rhinelander Avenue and Radcliff Avenue in Morris Park.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 59-year-old woman was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra westbound on Rhinelander Avenue and approached the intersection at Radcliff Avenue when she struck 91-year-old Simone Canepa, who was standing in the roadway raking leaves.

The Hyundai driver remained on scene and did not sustain any injuries.

EMS transported Canepa to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi with trauma to the head.

Canepa succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, November 12.

This collision is being investigated by the NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad.
