Police rule death of Brooklyn woman, 60, homicide after barricaded standoff

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police ruled the death of a 60-year-old Brooklyn woman a homicide on Friday.

Officers found Karen Barnes unconscious and unresponsive after breaking through a barricade at an apartment on East Fifth Street near Ditmas Avenue in Kensington just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, according to officials.

EMS pronounced her dead at the scene and brought the 62-year-old man who had barricaded the apartment to Maimonides Medical Center for treatment and evaluation.

Her death is now being investigated as a homicide. It’s unclear what transpired between her and the man leading up to her death.
