NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police investigating a two-vehicle crash in Queens on Wednesday afternoon found a man dead with a gunshot wound to his head in the passenger seat of a Range Rover, police said.

The Range Rover’s driver ran away and was still unaccounted for Thursday following the 4:15 p.m. crash at Parsons Boulevard and Franklin Avenue in Flushing.

The Range Rover was headed northbound on Parsons Boulevard when it crashed head-on into a white van that was stopped at a red light.

Officers responding to a 911 call about the crash discovered the Range Rover driver was nowhere to be found.

When they inspected the SUV, they found a 48-year-old man unresponsive in a rear passenger seat with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

He was transported to Flushing Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the white van remained at the scene and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

The 48-year-old victim has not been identified. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, including when and where he was shot.

No arrests have been reported in the case.
