NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Rikers Island detainee ran from a transport bus Wednesday night before he was quickly recaptured, Department of Correction officials said.
The detainee was being escorted off the bus at 8 p.m. when he ran a few feet away from an escort officer, according to officials.
He hid under a trailer but was unable to escape the secure transportation area before he was apprehended, officials said.
“We take all escape attempts very seriously,” a correction department spokesperson told 1010 WINS.
“Our officers acted quickly and apprehended the detainee within minutes in the secure area,” the spokesperson said. “This incident is under investigation.”
