NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- President Joe Biden finds the allegations of misconduct lodged against Gov. Andrew Cuomo “troubling” and “hard to read,” but will continue to wait for the results of an ongoing independent investigation, his press secretary said Monday.

At a news briefing on Monday, a reporter asked White House press secretary Jen Psaki why Biden had not joined dozens of New York lawmakers who called on Cuomo to resign after several women, including three former aides, accused him of sexual harassment.

“Well, let me first say that, like everyone who continues to read stories, new developments seem to happen every day,” Psaki responded. “The president finds them troubling, hard to read. And every woman who steps forward needs to be treated with dignity and respect.”

“The New York Attorney General is pursuing, of course, an independent investigation against Gov. Cuomo, and that is appropriate,” she said. “And the president believes that’s appropriate, as does the vice president.”

“The investigation needs to be both quick and thorough, consistent with how serious these allegations are,” she added.

Cuomo provided a number of COVID-19-related updates at a press conference on Long Island on Monday afternoon, but did not speak about the allegations.

The governor earlier this month apologized for”act[ing] in a way that made people feel uncomfortable,” but has repeatedly maintained he “never touched anyone inappropriately.”
